Management responses to risks and some characteristics of a preferred crop insurance scheme for avocado and banana growers in the Sunshine Coast district, Queensland

Results of a preliminary survey indicate that the main perceived risks are natural - especially weather - hazards, which are 'dealt with' by a range of technical and marketing strategies. Most farmers were interested in non-compulsory insurance to the extent of spending about 5 percent of gross sales as premiums to insure 65 percent of gross. A more comprehensive study is recommended.
