From 3 experiments over 2 years, the benefits of short scrotum lambs in terms of growth rate occurred when animals were born in late winter - early spring. Such lambs were significantly leaner than wethers, the difference increasing with carcass weight. Testes development varied greatly among short scrotum lambs, and there was a poor relationship between testes weight and growth rate.
