Fungal isolates from 10 Kennedia occurrences were tested for virulence on wild G. canescens and soybean. Isolates virulent on either or both host lines were identified; there was also a range of resistance and virulence respectively when populations of Kennedia were challenged with isolates of Phakopsora. Results support the contention that the P. pachyrhizi population of eastern Australia is complex and may contain a number of subpopulations variously adapted to particular combinations of host species.
