Effect of Enterobacter aerogenes on the rhizosphere microflora of apple trees
1994
Marchi, A. (Agriculture Canada Research Station, Summerland, British Columbia (Canada)) | Utkhede, R.S.
Fifty-seven fungi and 59 bacteria were isolated from soils collected from two apple orchards located in Kelowna and Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. Sixteen fungi and 35 bacteria, respectively, were significantly inhibited by the biological control agent Enterobacter aerogenes in a dual culture test. These results indicate that the antibiotic(s) produced by this organism has a wide spectrum of activity. This ability of E. aerogenes may protect apple trees from infection by other soil microorganisms
