Two experiments had been conducted in Muara Experimental Farm during dry season 1986. One was using split plot design with three replications and the other one using randomized block design with two replications. Thinning was done at various growth stage from 100,000 plants/ha to 50,000 plants/ha under four and three levels of nitrogen. The results indicated that grain yield, fresh forage and total grain and forage crude protein of IPB 4 corn hybrid and Arjuna varieties and crude protein contents of Arjuna forage increase as the nitrogen levels was increased. The grain yield and forage crude protein contents decrease with time of thinning, on the other hand, the fresh forage increased. The highest profit of IPB 4 and Arjuna was Rp.860,880,- and Rp.381,150,- obtained from plot treated with 300 kg N/ha and thinned at 3rd growth stage and from plot treated with 225 kg N/ha and thinned at 2.5 th growth stage, respectively. These values were 73.08 percent and 19.95 percent higher than the check plot. The economic profit percentage of IPB 4 on 150 kg N/ha dose was still higher than economic profit percentage of Arjuna on 225 kg N/ha. The highest profit of IPB 4 was 35.16 which was obtained from plot treated with 300 kg N/kg and thinned at 3.5th growth stage.
