In a glasshouse trial, an isolate of Bacillus sp. reduced wilt by 71 percent, and in the field, 4 strains reduced wilt by between 52 and 79 percent. Yield was increased by up to 90 percent. Isolates of B. subtilis were ineffective in glasshouse or field. P. fluorescens strains reduced wilt by up to 51 percent in the glasshouse and 75 percent in the field. An actinomycente isolate was also promising in trials. In vitro inhibition of P. solanacearum did not reflect the potential of an antagonist in the glasshouse or in the field.
