Supplementation of rice straw [as feed for sheep] with dry leucaena [intake; digestion]
1989
Doyle, P.T. (Melbourne Univ., Parkville (Australia). School of Agriculture and Forestry)
The effects of 3 levels of legume content of mineral-supplemented rice straw on voluntary intake, digestion in the rumen, the supply of energy and protein to the tissues, and on liveweight change, are reported. It is concluded that leucaena as a supplement to low-quality forage supplies limiting nutrients to rumen microbes, additional amino acid supplies to tissues, and is palatable to small ruminants.
