The chromosome number of F1 hybrid plants from Oryza sativa L. (AA) X O. minuta Presl. (BBCC) crosses that were produced through embryo culture was determined from root tips and pollen mother cells (PMCs).The hybrids were triploid (ABC) with 36 chromosomes. An examination of meiosis at metaphase I in PMCs revealed the presence of a high number of univalents, a few bivalents with occasional trivalents. The average numbers of univalents, bivalents and trivalents were 29.26, 3.28(rod) + 0.07(ring) and 0.008 per cell, respectively. The high number of univalents observed indicates very low or nil homology between genomes of O. sativa and O. minuta
