Rural population use indigenous fruits to supplement their diets in many different ways depending on the type of fruit, fruit part and ethnic group. Little or no improvement of indigenous fruit trees has been done because of the introduction of exotic fruits throughout the country. These indigenous species have the potential for providing fruit throughout the year. Therefore, knowledge of the ripening periods of these indigenous fruits in Zambia is necessary for mapping out a research agenda for their domestication and utilization
