Community involvement in land degradation measurement [Victoria]

Members of a Victorian Landcare group took part in a program to map salinity discharge across their properties. They identified discharge sites on property maps that were entered into a Geographic Information System for mapping and analysis. The results highlighted the valuable pool of information held by landholders. The project also shows that the process of gathering information may be an important opportunity to motivate community group development and to improve individual awareness of salinity
