In field trials over 5 y. soil type had a major influence on above-ground yield, but a limited influence on root yield at 15 cm and on nutrient concentrations of above-ground matter and of roots. Provided conservative stocking rates are used, soil type should have limited effect on the liveweight gains attainable from grazing the pasture
