In a 3-year experiment (1987-1990) an optimalization of nitrogen rates used for fertilization of winter wheat was studied. The field experiments were carried out on the heavy gleyic alluvial soil in the potato growing region. The best parameters of grain production, its quality and highest economical effectiveness of nitrigen fertilization were reached by applying the calculation based on the inorganic nitrogen content in soil, determined at the depth of 0.6 m, considering its 80 % utilization and N-utilization by wheat stand in the phase of 6th leaf.
