An economic assessment of the cost of salinity to agriculture in the Loddon Dryland sub-region [Victoria]
1994
Luke, R. | Shaw, P. (Victorian Dept. of Agriculture, Echuca (Australia))
An estimate is provided of the loss of agricultural production due to salinity in the Loddon River catchment area. Losses are estimated over the medium (10 y) and long (30 y) term. The gross value of production in the catchment in 1988-89 is estimated at 87.4 million dollars. Gross margins for the major enterprises were calculated to find the loss due to salinity, currently 216,000 to 424,000 dollars per annum. If no plan for salinity control is implemented the loss could increase in the medium term to between 250,500 and 497,000 dollars; in the long term to between 387,000 and 770,000.
