Finishing steers on silage and grain diets
1993
Kaiser, A.G. | Uttley, M.F. (New South Wales Agriculture, Wagga Wagga (Australia)) | Simmul, L.K.
Gives results of liveweight gains of steers fed diets of different silages and different grains in varying proportions and over varying numbers of days. Silages were subclover, maize, grain sorghum, lucerne and oat/vetch. Conclusions from the trials indicate that some silages can produce excellent weight gains and carcase composition with a lower proportion of grain in the diets. The levels of dietary protein need to be monitored carefully to achieve best results for feed costs.
