1991
Collins, P.J. (Queensland Dept. of Primary Industries, Indooroopilly (Australia). Entomology Branch)
The author attended the 5th International Working Conference on Stored Products Protection held in Bordeaux, France, 9-14 September 1990 and then visited 3 laboratories close to London. Major themes of the conference included: future of chemical control in a marketing environment where there is a great deal of pressure to minimise pesticide residues; dealing with the problem of resistance to grain protectants, phosphine and controlled atmospheres; new chemicals, particularly those derived from natural (usually botanical) sources; use of mixtures of chemicals; practicalities of using controlled atmosphere technologies and development of expert systems. Research at Rothamsted Experimental Station, the Natural Resources Institute and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Control Science Laboratory on aspects of stored product insect control was examined.
