PCB in fish of the river Morava (Danube basin) - a sampling approach
1996
Jurajda, P. | Bernardova, I. (Akademie Ved, Brno (Czech Republic). Ustav Krajinne Ekologie)
This report presents the result of the first systematic monitoring of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) residues in muscle tissue of fish (chub, Leuciscus cephalus and brown trout, Salmo trutta m. fario) of the River Morava (11 profiles) and the river Becva (1 profile) both in the river Danube basin. No sample analysed exceeded the hygienic limit of the Czech Republic (0.5 mg.kg-1 of fresh tissue), though a slight increasing trend in the PCB values was noted in the lower course of the Czech stretch of the river. Content of PCB was positively correlated (r=0.70) with content of lipid (%) in muscle tissue, but not with size, weight or age of fish. Own lipids contents varied independently of size, weight, age, sex but did correlate with sampling season in both sexes.
