The maturity of five compost types in the thermally isolated bioreactors was modelled. In defined time intervals the intensity of organic materials decomposition and their progressive conversion to the compost by the classical microbiological and biochemical tests were evaluated. These tests were compared with the biological method of measuring the phytotoxicity level of water extracts of compost samples by means of germination index. By the maximum value of Sperman's correlation coefficient (rs=1) the statistically important indirect linear functional dependence of the biological test and the classical respiration method of compost maturity determination were proved. By this dependence the possibility of mutual substitution of these two tests was verified so that the compost maturity could be determined by simpler biological method. The correlation dependence was found at the limit of conclusive evidence (rs=0.822) between the N-NH4+ content and the decrease of phytotoxicity. Between the number of microorganisms and the biological method no statistically evident correlation was found.
