Collections of naturalised accessions were made from areas with low, high and intermediate concentrations of extractable soil phosphorus, and compared in pots in controlled environment with 3 commercial cultivars and an accession from Algeria. Various methods of determining the efficiency of utilisation of P were examined, and the rankings of accessions varied with the methods employed; except that by all methods cv. Ladino was generally the most efficient. It is suggested that there is scope for selection for P use efficiency in clover accessions.
