Participation of women in postharvest activities in Uganda

The role of women in the postharvest system was investigated in 14 districts of Uganda. A total of 306 households were interviewed including 78 female respondents. The proportion of wives that carried out harvesting, perprocessing and winnowing of the crops were 51.1, 46.6 and 61.9, respectively, while the wife worked with other familiy members in 40.2 and 9.8 of the cases, respectively. The proportion of women involved in grain out-flow was substantial (83) but men involvment was predominant 57 in marketing of products
