Rubaihayo, P.R. | Rusoke, G.D. (Makerere Univ. Kampala (Uganda). Dept. of Crop Science)
The paper presents results of various variety trials of local and selected tomato lines from introduced segregating materials conducted at Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute, Kabanyolo (MUARIK), Mubuku Irrigation Scheme, and Ikulwe District Farm Institute. Yields obtained showed better performance of exotic cultivars and their selections than local cultivars. Most of the selections like those from hybrid variety MT17 (Senator F2), MT43, CL475BC1F2-45-4B trials. The local semi wild tomatoes (MT 29, 30 and 31) have no direct commercial value but have potential in the breeding programme based on their deep rooted system which is beneficial during water stress conditions
