Finnish agriculture is based on family farms. The average farm size is 13.7 ha of arable land. The agricultural production is based mainly on livestock. Only 15 % of arable land is used for crop production. Milk production and forestry are important. The share of agriculture in the gross domestic product is less then 3 %. The share of agriculture labour force in the national economy is about 7 %. The rules of the Common Agricultural Policy changed essentially the agricultural production. Market prices fell on the average by 40 % but the production did not react to this changes. The support system consists of the EU and of national support.
