Specificity and sensitivity of polyclonal antibodies prepared after immunization of rabbits with antigens (extracted from mycelial mats of Phytophthora nicotianae var. nicotianae - PNN) were studied. Antisera and IgG were suitable to detect other Phytophthora spp., i.e. P. cinnamomi, P. cactorum, P. cryptogea, and P. fragariae; differences between the species were quantitative. The specificity of polyclonal antibodies was increased with saturation of IgG with antigens. There was no increase of polyclonal antibodies specificity and sensitivity after immunization of rabbits with purified PNN antigen or a fraction of proteins.
