Experimental salt poisoning in chickens

Seven-week-old chickens received feed and water containing 1.5, 3.5 or 20 % salt. The sensitivity of birds to salt depends on species, age and availability of water. Neither clinical signs, nor postmortem findings are conclusive for the diagnosis of salt poisoning. Analysis of feeds, intestinal contents and/or liver is a reliable diagnostic method.
