Initial moisture content of coffee seeds, its relation to storage period
1992
Prawoto, A.A. | Rahardjo, P. (Pusat Penelitian Perkebunan Jember (Indonesia))
Inglés. A study to decide the appropriate initial moisture content of coffee seeds (S-795 var.) to storage had been conducted in Seed Technology Laboratory of Jember Research Institute for Estate Crops. The results showed that the initial moisture content of 32 to 42 had preserved the viability (germination percentage more than 80) for 7 to 8 months storage in tight plastic bag at ambient temperature of 17 degrees C whereas at lower initial moisture content (28 to 31), the best viability could be maintained for 4 months only. The decrease of coffee bean viability was mainly caused by the increase of cell membrane permeability which could be detected by the increase of electrical conductivity of the soaking water
