Machining properties of 10 wood species from North Sulawesi [Indonesia]
1991
Rulliaty, S. | Rochman, O.
Machining properties of ten wood species from North Sulawesi was studied. The sample material was tested using ASTM D-1666-64, that was modified according to Forest Products Research Institute Report No. 160 (1982). Firstly, the samples (25 pieces/species) were dried to an equilibrium moisture content condition (15 or 18 percent of MC). The machining properties examined were planing, shaping, boring, turning and sanding, and the percentage wood defect recorded. The result shows that five wood species has fair to very good machining properties i.e. Dysoxylum sp., Elmerillia ovalis, Lophopetalum javanicum, Pangium edule and Serianthes minahassae. The remainders has good to very good machining properties, whereas three wood species i.e. Aglaia versteghii, Laplacea subintegerrima and Neonauclea sp. are better than others
