Changes in wood structure due to irradiation by gamma rays

The article is a review of world literature dealing with the effect of gamma rays on chemical structure of wood. Carbohydrates are more sensitive to gamma rays than is lignin. Both carbohydrates and lignin show permanent changes of their structure as well as their content in wood.
