[Potentials for reducing nutrient excretions by pigs]
1995
Pfeffer, E. (Bonn Univ. (Germany). Inst. fuer Tierernaehrung)
Adjusting nutrient supply to changing requirements of sows and growing/finishing pigs by phase feeding is the simplest step towards reducing nutrient excretions. Using free amino acids for supplementing cereal diets allows a substantial reduction of N intake without negative effects on performance. Correspondingly, supplementation of microbial phytase improves digestibility of P in most feeds of plant origin and thus diminishes the necessity of adding inorganic phosphates. Thus, it is possible to avoid excesses of N and P, as long as the number of pigs is adjusted to the quantity of own grown major sources of feed energy.
