[Evaluation of 11 varieties of sugar cane in a sandy soil in Central Venezuela]

Eleven sugar cane varieties were evaluated on a sandy soil in the Central Venezuela, Zulia state, during two years. The experiment was established with three replications in a randomized block design. Sugar cane varieties used in this study were CP62250, PR692176, CL61620, C32368, CP721210, CP70321, C37167, Cana Blanca, L60-25, CL591052 y My5514; all of them have been reported as drought tolerant CP62250, PR692176, C32368, CP721210, CL61620, were the varieties with more value in ton pol cane per hectare and ton pol per hectare in two harvest periods. Only the cultivars C32368, CP721210, CP62250 were observed until the ratoon. The varieties C32368 showed better root development.
