Monitoring of nutrient and extraneous elements in the foliage of birch-trees growing in an air-pollution area

On the basis of leaf analysis in the birch (Betula verrucosa) growing in different height transects (500-1,000 m above sea level) in the air-pollution area of the Krusne hory Mts, Cu content in terms of the nutrition plane of the investigated stands was found insufficient, K content at the limit between an insufficient and sufficient content, contents of N, P, Ca and Mg as sufficient and contents of S, Mn and Zn as increased. Contents of Pb and Al were found natural in terms of the input of extraneous matters, Cd content was excessive.
