The weight of fresh and dry rhizomes increased significantly with the age of the plantation. Independently of age, the highest yield of rhizomes was obtained from the plantation set with vegetatively obtained planting material and the smallest from seeds sown direct into the soil. A similar dependence as for rhizomes was noted in the yield of flower heads. No relation could be found between the experimental factors and the flavonid content in the heads. The polyphenol acid content was slightly higher in the heads than in the rhizomes and did not depend on the experimental factors
