The field experiments on maize destined for silage were carried out in 1987-89. 3 maize varieties (Beko 210, Kb 270 and Lg 5) and 4 seeding rates (62000, 77500; 97000 and 123000 seeds per ha) were compared. The experiment in 4 replications was carried out in a split-plot arrangement. The results obtained in the trial show that seeding rates have a marked influence on maize yield and its quality. Increased rates resulted in higher green and dry matter yields, total protein content and oats units, but reduced dry matter and total protein contents as well as percentage of cobs. No significant differences in the yield and its quality were observed between the maize varieties used in the present study
