Disease resistance carried out in Morocco between 1985 and 1990 showed that net blotch (Pyrenophora teres Drechs. [=Drechslera teres (Sacc.) Shoem.]) is the major foliar disease on barley (Hordeum vulgare L. subsp. vulgare). Barley stripe (Pyrenophora graminea S.Ito & Kuribay. [=Drechslera graminea (Rab.) Shoem.]) and scald (Rhynchosporium secalis (Oud.) J.J.Davis) were present but at lower frequencies and severities. Yield losses due to net blotch were estimated at up to 30 percent. Studies on host-pathogen interaction showed high variability of P. teres isolates in Morocco. While most of the local varieties were susceptible to the disease, several introduced cultivars showed good resistance
