[Up-to-date prerequisites for forming soil cultivation systems in Ukraine]
1997
Maliyenko, A.M. (Institute of Agriculture, Chabany, Kiev region (Ukraine))
In the article changes are elucidated in the soil cultivation systems caused by the economic situation in Ukraine, particularly privatization of land and other means of production. In western regions the farmer movement is widening and the process of sharing large massives of lands into small plots is observed. This cuts the use of soil protection techniques. Basic cultivation is reduced to tillage only. In central and eastern regions of Forest-Steppe zone farmers have no significant influence and existing systems of differential tillage are still kept. In the Steppe changes in the agrarian sector and technologies resemble those in eastern part of the Forest-Steppe. The Forest zone is under general influence of unfavourable economic processes and tolerates consequences of the Chernobyl accident. In the zone soil cultivation is re-oriented at non-moldboard tillage, mainly with disk harrows and partially with heavy cultivators. Reviving of regional machine and technological stations (MTSs) completed with modern machinery is supposed to improve quality of soil cultivation
