Winter barley crossings with increased amylopectin content (WBCwx) and increased amylose content (WBCha), samples of actual winter barley varieties and of the spring barley varieties Waxy Oderbrucker and Hi Ami were analyzed concerning the quality of barley grains and isolated starch. Protein content, beta-glucan content and starch content in whole meal, starch yield, amylose content and the particle size distribution of the isolated starches were determined. Significant differences were found between the crossing groups, the winter barley varieties and the spring barley varieties. The range of the values within the crossing groups is higher than within the winter barley varieties and within the spring barley varieties for all characteristics.
