The criteria for differentiation of a country and urban dwelling are different in different countries. At the same time, country has an irreplaceable position in the population reproduction. It is the source of human factor in the process of urbanization. Demographic reproduction is slowing down in the Slovak countryside. West Slovakia and part of Central Slovakia are showing a natural population decrease. The sources of population reproduction and of the future labour contingent are the areas of North and East Slovakia.
