Characterisation of the condensate generated from vacuum-drying of radiata pine wood

Inglés. Radiata pine wood was dried in an experimental vacuum kiln and the volatilised components together with water vapour were condensed and collected. The condensate was sampled at regular time intervals throughout the 114 h drying period. Volatile components were extracted and analysed by a combination of methods including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Chemical analysis data from a green wood sample indicated that 10% of the monoterpenes present were recovered in the kiln condensate. The main classes of organic compounds identified in the condensate were alcohol monoterpenes (endoborneol, alpha -terpineol, and 1,4-terpineol), methanol, acetic acid, formaldehyde, furfural, and diterpenes. In a commercial operationincorporating modifications to the vacuum pump vent, recoveries are likely to be higher than those achieved in this study. The BOD and COD values for the experimental vacuum kiln condensate indicate that treatment to reduce the concentration of organic compounds in the condensate will be required prior to discharge into the environment.

Alemán. Kiefernholz (P. radiata) wurde in einem Laborvakuumtrockner getrocknet. Die fluchtigen Anteile wurden mit dem Wasserdampf kondensiert und in regelmaaigen Abstanden wahrend der Trocknungsperiode von 114 h gesammelt. Die fluchtigen Komponenten wurden extrahiert und mit verschiedenen Methoden einschliealich GC-MS analysiert. Im Vergleich zur Analyse des waldfrischen Holzes ergab sich, daa 10% der Monoterpene im Kondensat gefunden wurden. Die Hauptgruppen der organischen Verbindungenim Kondensat waren Monoterpen-Alkohole (Endoborneol, alpha -Terpineol und 1,4-Terpineol), Methanol, Essigsaure, Formaldehyd, Furfural und Diterpene. In einem Trocknungslauf, der entsprechend den Industriebedingungen modifiziert ist, durfte die Ausbeute hoher liegen. Die BSB- und CSB-Werte der Kondensate des Labortrockners machen deutlich, daa der organische Anteil im Kondensat vor der Entsorgung verringert werden mua.
