Intramammary infection diagnosis. Evaluation of an Elisa Staphylococcus aureus antibodies test

Inglés. Staphylococcus aureus is the most frequent contagious pathogen in Italian herds and its precise diagnosis is one of the most important points in control programs. Recently an Elisa test to assess specific antibodies vs Staphylococcus aureus has been introduced in our Country and this paper reports the results of the evaluation in field conditions in comparison with bacteriological assays. The sensibility was in the range of 35-40%; specificity was in the range 95-98% and the negative predictive values in the range 33-35%. Practically, Elisa test showed to be unsuitable for the diagnosis of Staphylococcus aureus infections in commercial dairy herds

Staphylococcus aureus e' attualmente il principale agente contagioso presente nei nostri allevamenti e la sua corretta diagnosi delle infezioni rappresenta un momento fondamentale in un programma di controllo. Anche nel nostro Paese e' stato introdoto un test basato su anticorpi specifici verso Staphylococcus aureus. Per verificarne il valore, abbiamo utilizzato il kit in commercio su campioni di latte di bovino, confrontandolo con le tradizionali determinazioni batteriologiche. La sensibilita' del metodo risulta essere compresa tra il 35% ed il 40%. La specificita' risulta compresa tra il 95% ed il 98%; il valore predittivo negativo del test risulta essere compreso tra il 33% ed il 35%. Il test Elisa per la ricerca di anticorpi verso Staphylococcus aureus ha dimostrato di non possedere le caratteristiche necessarie per poter essere applicato nella pratica
