Post - secondary vocational education in wood science and technology
1999
Tratnik, M. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Biotechnical Fac., Wood Science and Technology Dept.)
On the basis of the hypothesis that the potential success of professionals in wood science and technology who hold different posts in practice (here we refer to graduates of the now cancelled programme of post-compulsory education (technical courses) of the Department of Wood Science and Technology at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana) depends on the knowledge and skills they had acquired in the regular course of study and on the assumption that their progress may be hindered by the lack of knowledge, which has been defined as a difference (gap) between the knowledge acquired and the knowledge required for a specific post, a multivariable analytical procedure of cluster analysis was used to classify the values of arithmetic means of the differences of evaluations between the knowledge acquired and the knowledge required in the surveyed subjects into related groups, by 25 variables (items), for each examined professional profile separately. The results were used in a professional assessment of the existing structure of professions in wood science and technology and whether it should be extended to include a new profile of the engineer in wood science and technology PSVE (post-secondary vocational education), which in terms of vocational education represents a higher degree and is expected to meet the assessment of staff requirements for the new vocational profile.
