2000
Shrestha, R.L. (Agriculture Research Station, Lumle (Nepal))
Co-ordinated varietal trials of garlic with eight genotypes were conducted at three locations, Lumle, Chhahara and Maduwa, during 1997 and 1998 to denitrify the early maturing high yielding genotypes for the hills of Nepal. Bhote lasun proudced the highest marketable yield followed by Satrasaya local and Mallaj local. However, Bohte lasun was late in maturity after sowing followed by Tanglichok local and Ghandruk local. Among the tested genotypes Satrasaya local was earliest than the other tested genotypes. According to the yield performance maturity and quality Satrasaya local, Mallaj local and Ghandruk local were found good genotypes for mid hill areas. Co-ordinated varietal trials on onion with thirteen genotype were conducted at two locations, namely Lumle and AER site Chambas during 1997 and 1998 to identifying the high yielding genotypes for mid hills of Nepal. The variety Red Creole matured earlier than the other tested genotypes. The mean maturity days were significant result showed the genotype Candy was late in maturity followed by Balem-IPA-0 and Ben Schemen. The highest yield was produced by Gladalen brown followed by Balem IPA-9 and Composto IPA-6. The lowest yield was produced by Brownville and Houston PVP. The genotypes Gladalen brown. Contessta, Balem IPA and Composto IPA were good for mid hill areas. The experiments of bulb onion storage were conducted at Lumle and at AER site Chambas under ambient storage condition to identify the suitable genotypes for good storage quality in the hills of Nepal. Trials were laid out in two replications tested with thirteen genotypes. Two kg of bulb onion was kept in the nylon net bags and hanged it on the bamboo poles under roof. Variety Red Creole had good storage quality than the other tested genotypes. Genotypes Banschemen, Brown vile Contessta and Houston PVP had poor storage quality, during three months storage period. The percentage of weight loss was low at ARS Lumle as compared to Chambas.
