Situation of breeding pigs of meat production on the basis of dam and sire breeds in the Slovak Republic

Transition to the new system of classification and evaluation of pig carcass emphasizes the requirements for higher pig meatiness. The authors have studied the meat efficiency of both dam and sire populations of 1908 pigs bred in Slovak Republic in 1999. The results demonstrate that it is necessary to increase the selection of new breeds for meat content both in the dam and sire populations
