Development in using solar energy enables its utilization in remote and hardly accessible areas; thus some portable electric devices will be needed. Optimization of photovoltaic systems requires irradiance measurements in site. Insolation measurements must cover possibly long periods and shoul be automatically controlled. A computer-aided system to measure irradiance (including photovoltaic array, measurement card, PC486 computer, current/voltage converter and LabView software) was developed. Testing of the system showed its usability to longlasting insolation measuring on given area
