The agri-monetary implications for trade of Greek agricultural products

Greece's accession to the European Community has only marginally affected the agricultural sector. Several econometric models of Greek agricultural products were constructed to estimate the agri-monetary effect on production, consumption and trade and to forecast Greek opportunities arising from the creation of the single market, for an exportable, durum wheat and an importable, maize commodity. Results indicate that the agri-monetary system reduces the competitive position of Greek exporters of durum wheat; Greek importers receive MCA import subsidies which distort the opportunity to produce greater quantities of maize.
