Seasonal variation of essential oil constituents and analysis of some phenolic compounds in Myrtus communis leaves and fruits growing wild in Algeria
1997
Rahili, G.
The effect of the harvesting period on the essential oil yield and composition of leaves and berries from Myrtus communis, growing wild in Bainem Algeria was investigated. In the second part of this work, the metabolic extract of the mature fruits was used to isolate and identify some phenolic compounds. The chemical composition of the essential oil was determined by GC and GC MS analysis. More than eighty components were detected and forty one of them, representing approximately 84 per cent of the total oil, were identified. The major constituents of the oil were a-pinene, limonene, 18 cineole, bornyl acetate, neryl acetate and methyl eugenol. The harvesting period proved to have remarkable effect on the essential oil yield of the leaves.
