Assessing the characteristics of the distribution channels of olive in Greece

CAP regulations are presented. An insight of the manufacture, wholesale and retail sector with the major companies and their markets shares is also presented. Apart from the field research, it was of interest to investigate (through secondary data), the olive oil market in Greece compared to foreign markets and to update all the market data related to olive oil sector. A market survey was conducted by questionnaire in the areas of Athens, Thessaloniki and Crete in order to record quantitative data, preferences, purchasing criteria, buying procedures and attitudes of firms towards conventional and organic olive oil. Personal interviews with executives from major olive oil companies were conducted. Data analysis using descriptive statistics, univariate and bivariate statistics and correspondence analysis was used.
