The pathology encountered in a group of 1000 adult pheasants (90% male) imported from Rumania at the end of December 1997 is described. On delivery, after a trip lasting over 4 days, as soon as they were removed from the cages, nearly all of the animals presented difficulties of deambulation and tendencies toward decubitus. However, the general condition of the animals was fairly good, in that remains of sugar beet and corn which had been left at their disposal as a food and water source could be seen. The antibiotic therapy, based on tylosina and tetracycline, and simultaneous administration of vitamine supplements, broght about progressive general improvement and functional improvement of the lower limbs in approximately 70% of the subjects affected. In the other subjects there was persistent and increasingly serious lameness and decubitus are sternal or lateral, caused by progressive accumulation of urates
