Evaluation of trap crops for oviposition preference and an augmented release of Trichogramma chilonis as a biocontrol agent was carried out as important component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches to manage tomato fruit borer (Helicoverpa armigera) at Yampaphant (475 m asl) during the year 1999. The results showed that Chickpea var Koseli is the best trap crop for the oviposition preference. The effectiveness of laboratory produced T. chilonis was also assessed and the result revealed that Trichogramma release leads to increase rate of parasitisation in the field more marketable fruit yield and less bored fruit yield. The average ratio of parasite-larvae in the released plot was 6:1 as compared to 1:1 under natural condition. More than 50 percent increase in marketable fruit yield and more than 50 percent decrease in bored fruit yield were found in Trichogramma released plot as compared to the control.
