The position of forestry in the frame of national economy
2001
Chytry, M.
The Czech Republic is one of well-developed countries in forestry. Nevertheless, the proportion of the forestry sector in GDP is only 0.7 %. The annual cut is currently 14 mil. cbm and the total annual increment about 18 mil. cbm.The goals in forestry are focussed not only on timber production but also on forest stand stability, and respecting non-wood producing functions. The proportion of the forestry sector in GDP will be permanently dropping depending from the industrial development. Consumption of timber and forest products has up to now been low in the Czech Republic, and timber production exceeds domestic demand. Foreign trade in timber is fully liberalized and more than one third of roundwood production is exported. Forestry is increasingly loosing its character of the commercial sector. Forest management will be in the future approaching conservation of the forest environment, voluntarily funded from the public budgets.RESSORTX
