Crystallinity of cellulose residue remaining after the phenolation of cellulose
2001
Alma, M.H.
So far, many studies were performed on the phenolation of lignocellulosics to make molded materials, carbon fibres, adhesives and so on. In the phenolation process, it is sometimes necessary to reuse unreacted parts of lignocellulosics as filler and so on. It is well known that the remaining unreacted part consists, mainly, of cellulose. As a result of this, it is very important to know the features of unreacted cellulose, especially changes in its crystallinity. However, no studies have been done in this field yet. Therefore, this study aimed at measuring the crystallinity of cellulose residue, prepared by phenolation of cellulose using oxalic acid as a catalyst, by using X-ray diffractometer.
