The effect of 3,5,6-TPA on greenhouse-grown apricot plants, cv Tirynthos, was studied in a two-year trial. In 1996, a 15 ppm treatment was imposed. The total amount of 3,5,6-TPA was distributed all at once, in two treatments of 7.5 ppm or in 3 treatments of 5 ppm. In 1997, a 5 ppm treatment was imposed once, twice or three times. All the plants involved in the experiments were compared to untreated control plants. Yield, number of fruits per plant, number of damaged fruits per plant, the solid soluble content (RSR) and the firmness (IP) were determined at harvest. The ripening precocity index (IPM) and the marketable production (PC) were also estimated. In the second year, the growth rate and cumulative growth were calculated on 100 fruits per treatment. The most interesting result of this study is that the increased average fruit weight (up to 40% vs controls) was not due to a lower number of fruits per plant
