Vitis vinifera cv. 'Pikolit' is a white grapevine variety, yielding a high quality wine. Cv. 'Pikolit' is not yet included in the grape varietal list in Slovenia but the demands for the cultivar is in increase. Pikolit vine is grown mainly in Furlania region where it is probably its origin, too. Beside Furlania, the vine can be found in Slovenia wine growing region of Goriska Brda. The grape production of this cultivar is generally very unstable and poor. The vines express flower-shedding which can be explained by several causes: physiological and nutritional, pathological, genetic and ecological. Flower-sheding has been studied at the collection vineyard of Dobrovo in Goriska Brda in 1998. The impact of a distance from cv. 'Pikolit' to the pollination vine cv. sRebula' on the quality and quantity of the cv. 'Pikolit' crop has been studied. The vines werw sampled in groups as follows: A - a group of cv. 'Pikolit' vines planted close to cv. sRebula' vines, B - control group of standard planted cv. 'Pikolit' and cv. sRebula' vines, C - cv. 'Pikolit' vines with inflorescenses isolated at bloom time. Attention was given to the pollen fertility, the number of flowers/cluster, the morfological anomalies and the quality crop of the sample vines. The number of flowers/cluster was the same in the different groups, however, at the end of the bloom, the vines with isolated inflorescenses and the vines planted in large distance from the pollinate showed poor berry set. The reason for this phenomen lies in the flower morfology. Cv. 'Pikolit' has functional female flower which disable autofertilisation and hermaphrodite flower with normal autofertilisation. Furthermore, the cv. 'Pikolit' pollen itself is not fertile. At the vines situated closely to the pollination vines (group A) the berry set was normal, and hence the higher yield/vine. The proximity of the pollination vine is in the direct correlation with the quality and the quantity of cv. 'Pikolit' yield.
